The group took exception to the findings of a nine-month Marine Corps study, which included elaborate battlefield simulations, aimed at examining the impacts of integrating women into combat arms units.

Marines in training navigate through forest grounds using the land navigation instruction given by their combat instructors at Camp Geiger, N. Germano and several other active-duty and retired military officers called for all military positions to be open to women, facing the same standards as men.

Editor’s Note: This article originally appeared at Cellar Door, the personal blog of Gabrielle Puglia. You need to understand that the military is a brotherhood.

There have been a few articles about the pros and cons of dating the Generation Y military man, and while some of them are better reads than others, I felt the need to weigh in. Military men may never have closer relationships than those they made in the military.

Making Travel Plans FOR Your Recruit You may arrange for your Marine to travel home with you, but be sure to send your Recruit a hard copy of the travel plans. If you choose to make the travel plans for your Recruit, communication with one another will be vital.

Please see the information in the top right block titled "What's After Boot Camp" and make note of the time frames involved with 10-day leave, possible Recruiter's Assistance, and when/where s/he will need to report to SOI.

We have many parents with a lot of experience in making these arrangements. As you read through this, remember that each family and Recruit may have different circumstances that will dictate different needs, but this will help you get a bit more information and feel a little more secure in making the travel plans.

Your Marine's Orders Upon leaving the Depot, your new Marine will have a copy of his/her orders for travel. There is no room for late flights, missed connections, or late arrival to the School of Infantry (SOI).

This list is not simply a composition of pros or cons, but rather an overview of what dating a service member active duty or veteran — is like. They are meant to be extremely close with this group of people and everyone else is simply on a need-to-know basis. He will love you fiercely and be the most faithful companion, if you can promise the same. Granted, that is earned due to the nature of their work and how much they put on the line.

Just keep in mind that the chances of him wanting to open up and talk about it — let alone seek help — are slim to none, at least at first.

This will be trying for you, but imagine how he feels. Military men have likely traveled to parts of the world you have not, and can tell you facts about different cultures/countries/states. Military men are used to being thrown into countries and situations with which they are unfamiliar, so when traveling, always expect to have a great navigator around.
